Earthen Floor, Main House, East Bathroom

 

We have all the materials onsite. 

  • 4+ hours: mix & apply earthen base coat (fiber, manure, for tensile strength, wheat paste, sand for stability,
  • 3+  hours:  after the sub floor is dry, cover with an earthen finish coat.  Let dry.
  • Intermittently:  seal with several coats of Natural Floor Resin by Bioshield.

Cement Floor staining experiments

On the closet floor of the East bedroom expeiment with staining the floor. 

Mix our earth in slip form with linseed oil.

Mix dry 1/8 inch sifted soil with linseed oil.

 


Timbers in Strawbale Studio

 

All materials are on site.

 

6 hours:  Can be done in smaller blocks of time.

 

  • Clean up with wire brush to remove earth plasters.  This will require working up on a tall ladder for some parts.
  • Possibly oil the timbers for beauty, but this must not stain the earth walls.
