  Natural Building & Sustainable Living Skills – Education Program

 

   CLASSES   ~   WEEKEND GATHERINGS   ~    2-WEEK WORKSHOPS    ~   ON-GOING ACTIVITIES 

       

  The Strawbale Studio  is located outside Oxford, MI on wooded rural land 1 hr. north of Detroit, Michigan. 

  Activities are at the Strawbale Studio unless otherwise noted.   REGISTRATION

 

 

  CLASSES       

 

March 1                 2013   1st Friday VOLUNTEER DAY     Activity: Reed Harvesting. Includes a Free Tour & Lashing Class. 

 

March 3                 2013   TOOL Repair & Sharpening with John Eisley.   1-5 p  $25 prepaid of $35 with rsvp.

 

April 7                   2013   MUSHROOM GROWING with Paul Angelini. Basics cultivation & hands-on  Log to take home.

                                            Includes an Earth Oven Pizza Party (with mushrooms, of course !) Fee tbd  

 

March 31              2013   HENNA CLASS with local expert at the Strawbale Studio. Includes a tour.  1-5p  $25/$35

 

June TBD             2013   ROUND POLE FRAMING 2-day Class – on the Angelini’s Outdoor Kitchen, Clarkston.$100 1 mo. in advance.

                                        $150 after, with RSVP.  Limit 12 students. Register now !

WEEKEND GATHERINGS with a focus on Reed Harvesting. Held at the Strawbale Studio land.  

 

Come to part or all of the weekend ~ for a variety of sustainability experiences, with a focus on reed harvesting.

Monthly Potluck             Full Moon Community Event.

                                                       Includes Potluck ,bonfire, tour of the buildings grounds.  Free event, donations appreciated.

Weekend Gatherings ~ Details                                                 

 

Come to all or part of the weekend. Suggested donation $25 - $75.  Scholarships available. 

 

Friday night at 6m come together to share food and conversation about natural building.  

You are welcome to stay overnight if you wish.  Bring towels & bedding if you can or we can provide it.

Saturday: 9 am tour the Natural Buildings on site. See the Strawbale Studio, Spiral Chamber,

new Retreat Cabin, the Kids Cottage, earth oven, rocket stove heated bench.  10a– 2p harvest

phragmite reed for the new Retreat Cabin.  Bring a snack or lunch, water or warm beverage,

gloves, warm waterproof boots,. Return for a workshop related to natural building & sustainable living,

followed by a simple supper.  Stay over if you wish, see above. Sunday we will reed collect from 10 – 2,

and then from 2-4 enjoy sharing your building plans with the group in a Design Charette. 

Get input from others on your design ideas.
