Oakland Steiner School Playhouse.
This collaborative project, initiated by Lance Bowen, New Harvest Homes, Inc. and joined by Deanne Bednar and many others, is a playful exploration into using natural building materials in a whimsical way. The strawbale walls of this many-sided structure interlace with wattle and daub (sticks and mud). The enchanting "Hobbit Door" made by Lance has carvings reflective of the different classes at the school. The "Secret Door" in the back allows access through a crawl hole in the back of the structure. The building is up on posts, legs, with a roof made of round logs and cedar shakes coming down low like a hat.
Other helpers were Amber Baker, Felipe Arana, Jason Howard, Becky and Mark, Laura Anderson, Hanna, (incomplete list)
