4 day Permaculture Class in Detroit

http://www.midwestpermaculture.com/suburban-urban%20intensive.php#c

April 8-11, 2010

Thurs. - Fri. - Sat. - Sun.

Detroit, MI

Gleaners Food Bank

2131 Beaufait, Detroit, MI

Location

For more than 32 years, Gleaners Community Food Bank has been "nourishing communities by feeding hungry people.” Last year, Gleaners distributed more than 30 million pounds of emergency food to over 430 partner soup kitchens, shelters and pantries in S.E. Michigan. This location is a vibrant community hub of Detroit and we are grateful to be able to host the training here.

Gleaners Community Food Bank is adjacent to one of the fields farmed by Earthworks Urban Farm, which includes an apiary.   Earthworks, a project of the Capuchin Soup Kitchen is Detroit's first certified organic farm, and was named one the top 10 urban farms by Natural Home Magazine in 2009. The farm supplies fruits and vegetables for the Soup Kitchen as well as Gleaners Food Bank. We will visit this site.

Lodging

For students traveling from out of town, there are dozens of motels, regional camping areas, and possibly some local students might have a spare room to rent. Networking and information on lodging options could become available should there be a demand. For now, we are recommending Inn on Ferry Street for a local, comfortable and affordable stay. It's about 4 miles from Gleaners. Consider bringing your bicycle.

Price & Registration:

   Before March 8th: $400

   After March 8th: $450
