Natural Building Series Part 1: Rubble Trench Foundation 

 

May 10 & 11, 2008  10 am - 4 pm.

 

Come learn about the construction of this unique start-to-finish building that will teach real building skills using local & natural materials.  This weekend will give an overview of the Kid's Cottage natural building series, and will feature the hands-on construction of a traditional Rubble trench, using fieldstone from the land. This type of foundation is appropriate as the base for many kinds of structures, including garden walls, and both conventional & natural homes in almost all climates.

 

The weekend includes

  1. An overview of the Kid's Cottage Project & the 2008 Natural Building Series
  2. Design principles of natural foundations
  3. Some excavation of trench
  4. Harvesting & preparation of local materials
  5. Cedar post installation & stone infill 

Optional

Saturday potluck supper, evening browsing of natural building resource library & overnight stay.
