The Alberti Program, a summer program in Sustainable Design for 4th - 9th graders.

Curriculum development for this curriculum was by Gay Overbaum, Professor of Architecture and American Culture Studies at Washington University in St. Louis.  My previous natural building intern, Miriam Keller assisted in the design and teaching of this 4 week course and is currently working on a book to document the project.  She will email the outline of the book as soon as it is available.

The 4 week program included the following project goals:

Week 1.  Design a Solar Powered House based on the Solar Decathlon Design Competition used by universities.

Week 2.  Design an Ecological Playground  based on different factors that makeup ecosystems: native plants & animals, earth, water, sun, climate & seasons.

Week 3.  Design exhibits about 9 different countries in Africa, exploring themes of food, water, spirit and play. These exhibits were sent to schools in Africa.

Week 4.  Return to projects students want to explore more.

or Design Furniture from recycled cardboard

or Design a Sun Shade Shelter of material stretched over a structure attached to the ground.
