Collaboratively create a model of an ecological community that is inspiring, fun, and restorative. How could you integrate renewable energy, organic food production, recycling of wastes, alternative transportation, nature (and more) into an existing or imagined community? The "Global Ecovillage Project" involves studying about sustainability, then sculpting 2x3 foot model of an ecological community out of an earthen mix and small stones, plants, moss, found in nature. I taught this teaching unit many times when I had a Sustainable Futures class at Orchard Lake Middle School in West Bloomfield, MI. The project was published in a 2004 sustainability issue of the Social Studies Michigan Journal.
