REED COLLECTION ~ January, February & March 2009

Join in on the harvesting of Phragmite reed grass for the thatching of the Oxford Kid's Cottage and future natural building structures.  Primarily we are collecting at M 24 Lapeer Rd and Oakwood Rd., just north of Oxford, MI. We also have a variety of sites in Oakland, Macomb and St. Clair County where we can collect as well. Join us on the days below, or set up a date for you/ your group! We need your help, and are eager to teach you skills!

Schedule

MONDAY, TUESDAY, THURSDAY, FRIDAY, SATURDAY &  SUNDAY are the days we are most likely to go reed collecting from January through March, weather permitting.  Since the best time by far to collect is during the cold weather, when the ground is frozen, we will be going out "the sooner, the better".  So January is ideal if you are able to come during that time. Sometimes severe weather will bend over the reed, making it difficult or impossible to harvest, so the earlier in the winter, the more likely the reed will be good.

Call to coordinate with our evolving schedule. Deanne 248 628 1887.
