 LIVING & BUILDING IN COMMUNITY

2008 and earlier  2009

 an 8 day Skillshop on the land

 starting with an earth oven workshop & full moon potluck / bonfire ! 

  

June 26, 10 am – July 3, 2010  4pm  

or stay on through the 4th of July if you wish.

Attend part or all of this 8 day workshop.

 

This event is located in a beautiful rural setting of woodlands, meadows & gardens

  on the Strawbale Studio land outside Oxford, MI. One hour north of Detroit.

 

Saturday, June 26, 2010.       10:00 am to  5 pm.  Earth Oven Building !     $60  (Included in the 8-day Skillshop) 

                                                       6:00pm to 9 pm +   Full Moon Potluck           (Free & Open to the Community)

Other building activities during the week include   Strawbale construction: Design principles & hands-on. 

See examples of thatching and learn its basics:   Thatching: a hands-on introduction to this ancient art.

 

Participate in current projects and receive instruction in a variety of skills and educational opportunities each day.

Learn hands-on natural building & sustainable living skills, while enjoying nature & the company of each other. 

Enjoy being in direct relationship with local natural materials, co-creating within a community that supports each other~

~ and the great fun of working  together !

 

You will also experience:

  • The Strawbale Studio - a thatched roof strawbale structure featured in books & magazines!
  • The Smiling Sun Earth Oven
  • A Rocket Stove Heated Bench
  • A small greenhouse ~ provides food all year round with no added heat
  • Some permaculture gardening examples.
  • Several Strawbale & Wattle & Daub Structures with thatched roofs. 
  • Seasonal foraging on the land
  • A wonderful media library on natural building, plants & sustainable living skills. 
  • Evening events include bonfires, videos on natural building & pizza in the earth oven !

 

The schedule is dependent on weather and other factors, but there will be teaching experiences & opportunities to learn each day.

 

Fee & Registration* :

 $600 for the course with registration & $50 non-refundable deposit. 

$450 Early Bird Special ~ if prepaid in full by June 12.

  Includes lodging (some indoor bed & cots plus lots of outdoor camping space)

 and shared meals (bring some food supplies if you can, and help with some meals & cleanup). 

*Some scholarships available.
